admin8570The city is definitely worth a visit, but not only the city itself but also the surroundings where you can still breathe a little ‘Soviet’ life. Pushing a little out of the classical streets, you arrive in the suburbs where there are still Stalin-style complexes. Here, life seems years away from the modern St Petersburg of today.
Surface services such as the metro are accurate, but unlike Moscow, the metro in St Petersburg is ‘straight’,
whereas in Moscow, the metro offers more frequent routes between stations without leaving the metro,
in St Petersburg, on the other hand, to find the link between the various stations you have to go through a few more. It is also interesting to visit stations that are not exactly close to the centre. The suburbs in fact offer a lot compared to expectations. But I am not very convinced about this city it is ‘tough’ it is beautiful, fascinating but confusing, it gives a lot but at the same time there is little to visit. It did not disappoint my expectations, but reading the articles on the web, and what bloggers or casual tourists or guidebooks say about the city, I honestly expected it, but on the one hand I thought I would find something more.
At the time I stayed in the same hotel there were two Italian couples. Talking to them, they were not happy, apart from the main street, Prospect nevsky, they said there was nothing there. I need to say I don’t agree at all. If we focus on the main attractions, perhaps yes. But every city is not just built on the main sights, you have to go deep, so you also have to look further, and I think I found what I was looking for.
As I said above, the city is tough so you have to go very deep and be patient. You don’t appreciate it as easily as some other cities you have visited, you have to know it better to be able to extrapolate its beauty and charm. This time Pitesburg won, but the challenge still remains. I will return strengthened by the experience gained and then we will see.
