Undesirable trips, London

London

When we talk about travelling, in my opinion, we mean the strangest, most unusual destinations.

When it comes to the holiday season, we think about where we can spend a holiday ‘unplugging’ from the usual routine. As usual, the starting point in our mind is: Next trip, I’ll visit… It all starts here. And that’s when you start thinking, reading on the web, searching every possible solution and every possible destination.

Great journeys have this wonderful quality, that their enchantment begins before the departure itself.

We open the atlases, we dream on maps. The magnificent names of unknown cities are repeated

After looking at the European maps for days, I type in on google: least touristic cities in Europe. There are many cities considered ‘not very attractive’. The first on the list, the city that goes on the top of the podium is Chisinau, Moldova. I focus all my research on the city but with poor results, poor in terms of connections.

Unfortunately, getting to Chisinau is not easy at all. After a few days I shift my attention to another city, this time part of the VIP list, the elite of tourist destinations. London, UK. I booked the flight through the tamtamviaggi.it agency, all that remains is to wait for the day of departure, November the 5th.

To tell the truth, I am not that convinced about this choice. I will have the support of a very dear friend of mine who will host me at his house, but I leave with very low expectations. We shall see. In the meantime, we are counting the days to departure, just over a month to go, but I am already beginning to feel the journey itself. Describing the days before departure is exciting.

She loved airports: she liked the smell, the noise, the atmosphere, the people rushing here and there with their suitcases, happy to leave, happy to return.

She liked to see the hugs, to catch the strange commotion of the snatches and finds.

The airport was the ideal place to observe people….

How I choose my destinations and how I organise my trips.

  • As mentioned above on google I typed in ‘the less touristy cities of Europe’. In my case, not being able to get to Chisinau in the day for logistical reasons, I shifted my focus to another city, this time the choice fell on London. Not exactly in line with my blog; Focused on the Eastside, London is in the West, but that’s fine too.
  • Always on google I search for “safe travel”. I choose from the magnifying glass England and see if there are any particular precautions, in this case not so I can proceed with the flight search.
  • The flight: I usually always search on the web but, for pure convenience, I book through a trusted agency, in this case tamtamviaggi.it
  • Where to sleep: there are various platforms, such as booking, airbnb, etc. In my case, as mentioned above, I will be hosted at a friend’s house
  • I look for a lonely planet of the city and begin to study the various points of interest. On maps.me I start marking the various sights to see staggered by routes or days. For the rest, I get lost in the city, without anything planned.

All that remains is to wait for the eagerly awaited day, backpack on my shoulders and off we go.

Bye bye friends, see you on the next article.
